Certifications

I am April Jones- Forbes a dual certified Early Childhood Education teacher who is passionate about closing the education opportunity gap.

 I  have had the pleasure of teaching in both general and special education environments over the years. I started my teaching commitment in a title one Head Start in Bed-ford Stuyvesant under Teach for America. Then transitioned to Special Education at Adapt Community Network teaching in 4410 self-contained classrooms; While teaching in 4410 I began to work in Early Intervention as a Special Instruction Therapist for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (A.S.D). 

Currently I work as a special itinerant teacher;  Director and class instructor of Early Childhood Visionary Center. I was excited to open E.C.V.C to uplift the Ellenville area and instill a passion for learning in our children in the community.

I completed my Bachelors of Arts in Political Science and my Masters in Public Administration; I completed my Dual Masters in Education and Special Education. My certification is from birth through second grade. I successfully implemented many behavior modifications plans which helped many  meet and exceed their I.E.P goals.   

I  firmly believe in education being the number one equalizer, and that all students have the capability of learning. However, in some cases students loses their joy in academics. It is the job of us, as educators and parents to bring it back by making the learning experience influential and positive for every student.  

As a Teach for America Corps member I chose to embark on my journey as an educator with the intention to close the opportunity gap for students who are underrepresented in our communities. I was selected from approximately 48,000 applicants nationwide to join the national teacher corps of recent college graduates and professionals who commit two years to teach in under-resourced public schools. There I participated in an intensive training program to develop the skills and knowledge needed to achieve significant gains in student achievement.

 I am keen to curriculum development and delivery execution. My lesson plans are highly interesting and scaffold. I  have taught using The High Scope Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold as the assessment tool. This curriculum incorporates child based anecdotes into active learning instruction under the plan do and review guidelines. I am excited for this opportunity and I hope I can make a major impact within your child’s development.
